Ripple has unified its payments platform to handle both traditional fiat currencies and digital stablecoins, positioning itself as a competitor to existing financial infrastructure. The expanded Ripple Payments platform allows businesses to collect, convert, custody, and pay out funds through a single interface, eliminating the need for multiple providers for bank transfers and blockchain transactions.

One Platform, Two Worlds

The platform enables businesses to accept both fiat and stablecoin payments via virtual accounts and wallets. These assets can be automatically converted and settled into a single operational account, providing liquidity across markets without requiring clients to integrate disparate tools. The infrastructure leverages technology from Ripple's recent acquisitions, including Rail for virtual accounts and automated collections, and Palisade for custody and high-speed transaction signing.

At the core of this integrated system is RLUSD, Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin, which serves as the connective layer between fiat and digital payment rails.

RLUSD: Institutional Focus

RLUSD is designed for institutional use, fully collateralized by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term Treasuries, and cash equivalents, with monthly reserve attestations. It is issued on both the XRP Ledger, offering fast and low-cost transactions, and Ethereum, providing access to DeFi liquidity. As of early 2026, the circulating supply of RLUSD exceeded 1 billion tokens. The stablecoin also includes programmable compliance features, such as the ability to freeze addresses flagged for illicit activity, which is crucial for regulated institutions.

Regulatory Approvals and Global Reach

Ripple has systematically pursued regulatory compliance, securing over 75 global licenses. Key recent authorizations include a conditional OCC approval for a National Trust Bank charter in the U.S., a full Electronic Money Institution license from Luxembourg's CSSF in February 2026 granting passporting rights across the EEA, and both an EMI license and Cryptoasset Registration from the FCA in the UK in January 2026. Ripple also holds authorizations in Singapore, Dubai, Australia, Brazil, and Switzerland.

This extensive licensing strategy supports Ripple's argument to institutional clients that it can operate compliantly across jurisdictions where many crypto-native firms cannot.
