Deep Dive
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), has made a significant investment in the cryptocurrency exchange OKX. This deal values OKX at $25 billion.
As part of the agreement, OKX users will gain the ability to trade tokenized stocks and derivatives that are listed on the NYSE. This new trading capability is expected to be available from the latter half of 2026.
Haider Rafique, global managing partner of corporate affairs at OKX, described the collaboration as having "great chemistry" in their shared vision for the future of tokenized securities and the integration of traditional finance (TradFi) with digital assets. He emphasized that this is "not just a very casual investment," highlighting its strategic importance.
Following the announcement, OKX's utility token, OKB, saw a notable surge, increasing by over 38% in the past 24 hours to reach $106.70.
This investment marks another step in the NYSE's increasing engagement with the cryptocurrency space. In January, the NYSE revealed its development of a blockchain-based trading platform specifically for tokenized securities. Michael Blaugrund, vice president of strategic initiatives at Intercontinental Exchange, noted that this platform and the partnership with OKX are considered "complementary projects."
Earlier in February, NYSE President Lynn Martin expressed the exchange's sense of "responsibility to enter into the tokenization conversation."
OKX relaunched in the United States in April of the previous year. At the time of the settlement, OKX stated its commitment to "prioritize innovation with compliance."
Additionally, OKX has been reportedly considering a U.S. IPO as part of its strategy to strengthen its market position in the United States.
