OKX launches Orbit, a social trading platform integrated within its app

Deep Dive
Crypto exchange OKX has introduced Orbit, a new social networking feature within its trading app designed to allow users to discuss markets, showcase trading performance, and execute trades directly from posts. This feature aims to address credibility issues in online trading communities by providing verifiable, real-time performance data.
Orbit embeds a discussion layer into the OKX app where users can share trade ideas, host livestreams, and create groups. A key aspect is the ability to link directly to tradable assets using cashtags like $BTC or $ETH. Users can view an Orbit user's profile, which includes a 'posts' section and a 'performance' tab. The performance data, updated in real time and derived from the user's trading history on the OKX app, displays holdings, profit and loss, and trading history, including leverage. This data can be sorted across various time frames, such as 7, 30, 90 days, and one year.
OKX states that Orbit is designed to combat the issue of influencers sharing unverified profitable trade screenshots. The performance metrics are directly pulled from exchange data and are not editable by the user, ensuring authenticity. Users must complete identity verification and adhere to KYC, AML, and transaction-monitoring controls to access Orbit. While sharing performance data is optional, users cannot selectively edit or omit the displayed information.
The platform also introduces creator rewards, partly based on follower engagement and activity. Traders can earn rewards for posting content, livestreaming, and building communities. However, Orbit will not be initially available in the U.S., Europe, Singapore, Australia, or the UAE, markets with heightened regulatory scrutiny on social trading and investment promotion. The rollout has commenced with a limited user group and will expand following a beta phase.
