Crypto proponent Remi Relief has outlined his perspective on how SWIFT is structuring its blockchain efforts, describing it as a two-part system that separates messaging from liquidity.
According to his explanation, Linea, developed by ConsenSys, was chosen for the messaging function, while XRP helps in liquidity provision. His remarks were aimed at clarifying recent discussions around SWIFT’s blockchain prototype and its collaboration with ConsenSys.

Linea’s Purpose and Development
Remi Relief emphasized that Linea is not intended for liquidity or settlement functions, but rather serves as a messaging system. In his description, Linea enables banks to transmit instructions between one another on-chain.
He highlighted that ConsenSys is behind Linea’s development, aligning with reports that SWIFT partnered with the company to test blockchain-based cross-border payment solutions.
In his view, this means Linea functions as an infrastructure layer where developers can build applications for communication between financial institutions, but it is not designed for direct retail use.
XRP and On-Demand Liquidity
The central point in Remi Relief’s analysis is that XRP remains the asset positioned for liquidity services. He noted that only XRP has On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) and argued that this makes it irreplaceable in this framework. He added that Ripple holds a patent for ODL, which he sees as a critical factor in determining how liquidity solutions are integrated into global payment systems.
From his perspective, if SWIFT did not incorporate XRP for liquidity, Ripple could eventually dominate that role due to its proprietary position in ODL technology.

Bridging, Stablecoins and Interoperability
Remi Relief also referenced interoperability as an important consideration in this structure. Remi pointed to the existence of RLUSD on both Ethereum and the XRP Ledger. He also mentioned that bridging solutions, such as Axelar, connect XRP with other blockchains, including Ethereum, which hosts assets like RLUSD and Linea.
He suggested that these connections provide the means for liquidity and messaging systems to interact, reinforcing his argument that XRP and Linea are complementary components in SWIFT’s setup rather than competing solutions.
