ZachXBT, a prominent independent researcher in the cryptocurrency space, has issued a critical warning to the community regarding fraudulent applications impersonating Hyperliquid on the Google Play Store.
The researcher's statement highlighted the detection of fake applications published under the Hyperliquid name within the Google Play Store. These applications have been developed by scammers with the intent to deceive users by replicating Hyperliquid's branding, including its name and imagery, despite not being the official mobile application.
ZachXBT emphasized that these deceptive apps managed to circumvent Google Play's usual security measures, prompting an urgent call for users to exercise extreme vigilance when downloading any application. The researcher indicated that these scams are specifically targeting novice investors, aiming to illicitly acquire their wallet information. Once a user downloads and connects their cryptocurrency wallet to these fake apps, their assets are subsequently stolen.
Details of the Scam
One of the identified fake applications on the Google Play Store is attributed to a developer named "Tvtion, Inc." This fraudulent app features a professional design intended to foster user confidence. However, it is crucial to note that the Hyperliquid team has consistently communicated that the platform currently lacks an official mobile application.
Users are strongly advised against downloading any application claiming to be a "mobile application" unless its existence has been officially announced through Hyperliquid's verified channels.
