Romania is currently facing its most significant humanitarian case in history: Andreea Anița, a 27-year-old woman from Fălticeni, has been battling a rare form of cancer for 11 years. She requires a life-saving treatment that is exclusively available in the United States and comes with a staggering cost of $2.3 million.
The humanitarian campaign dedicated to helping Andreea is being spearheaded by police officer Dani Cek, who was also recognized as Man of the Year in Romania in 2025, alongside Father Alexandru Lungu and an NGO named “Aripi pe Pământ.”
To date, the campaign has successfully raised over $1.3 million towards Andreea’s treatment goal.
Andreea’s Story
Andreea was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer. The disease initially manifested in her leg and subsequently spread to other areas of her body.
The specific treatment she needs is called Tecelra, an innovative T-cell therapy developed in the United States. This therapy is specifically designed for patients with synovial sarcoma whose standard treatment options have been exhausted.
Having undergone treatment since the age of 16, Andreea has endured numerous health challenges. These have included multiple surgeries, the amputation of one leg, the removal of portions of her lung lobes, and repeated rounds of chemotherapy.
Medical professionals in Romania and across Europe have determined that there are no further viable treatment options available for Andreea within their reach. Her sole hope for recovery lies with the Tecelra therapy, which is accessible in the US.
However, without the full payment of $2.3 million, she is unable to secure an appointment or make arrangements to travel to the United States for the procedure.
Less Than $1 Million Still Required for Treatment
The humanitarian campaign has amassed over $1.3 million in just five days, meaning less than $1 million is still needed to reach the total cost of her treatment.
Andreea is currently hospitalized at the Municipal Hospital in Fălticeni, experiencing severe health complications following her most recent chemotherapy session.
Her compelling story has been featured by the Romanian mainstream press and has gained significant traction on social media. Individuals from across Romania and even internationally are actively contributing to help her cause.
Despite her critical health condition, Andreea has remained actively involved in various animal welfare initiatives, dedicating her efforts to assisting animals in need.
Dani Cek is providing daily updates on Andreea’s case through his social media channels.
