Ark Invest's Growing Stake in Robinhood
Cathie Wood's Ark Invest has made a substantial acquisition of Robinhood Markets stock, purchasing $21.3 million worth through two of its exchange-traded funds on Wednesday. This move underscores the firm's increasing focus on equities with exposure to the cryptocurrency market.
Specifically, the Ark Innovation ETF acquired 131,049 shares, while the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF added 36,440 shares. Following these acquisitions, Robinhood now constitutes approximately 19% of the portfolios for both of these ETFs.
Ark Invest's Broader Crypto-Exposed Equities Strategy
Throughout 2025, Ark Invest has been systematically broadening its investment in crypto-related assets. This strategy has involved acquiring shares in companies such as Robinhood, Bullish, Coinbase, and BitMine, a company focused on Ethereum treasury management. The firm's investment approach prioritizes companies that demonstrate significant operations within the digital asset space.
Robinhood's Strategic Moves to Enhance Crypto Offerings
Robinhood has undertaken several strategic acquisitions aimed at bolstering its cryptocurrency services this year. In May, the platform expanded into the Canadian market through the acquisition of Toronto-based WonderFi for approximately $180 million.
Further strengthening its global presence, the company completed the purchase of Bitstamp for $200 million in June. In that same month, Robinhood also announced its intention to launch a layer-2 blockchain, which will be built utilizing Arbitrum technology.
More recently, Robinhood has introduced trading support for $BNB. The company's crypto division reported a trading volume of $28.3 billion in the second quarter of 2025, representing a 24% increase compared to the same period last year.
Market Reaction and Future Outlook
Despite these developments, Robinhood's stock experienced a 3.5% decline on Wednesday, closing at $127.22. The company remains committed to expanding its digital asset infrastructure, irrespective of short-term market fluctuations.
