Ripio has launched the wARS stablecoin, which is available on Ethereum, World Chain, and Base. This initiative aims to bridge traditional finance with the crypto economy, with the goal of "leading the transformation of the financial system in Latin America." The wARS stablecoin is designed to provide users with new tools for payments, remittances, and savings without borders.
A Digital Argentinian Peso for Everyday Use
The introduction of wARS follows Ripio's previous success in tokenizing the AL30 bond, known as wAL30rd, which brought government debt instruments onto the blockchain. By directly linking digital assets to the Argentine peso, Ripio is developing an ecosystem where everyday financial transactions, such as paying bills and sending money internationally, can be executed seamlessly on the blockchain.

This development also aligns with a broader trend observed across Latin America, where high inflation and currency instability have prompted individuals to seek cryptocurrency alternatives. In Argentina, where annual inflation exceeded 140% in 2024, digital assets are increasingly being adopted as a hedge against inflation and a more efficient method for transferring funds. Ripio's creation of a blockchain-based form of the peso aims to make it more adaptable to modern financial needs.
Greater access to digital finance is here. We’re proud to team up with @Ripio to bring local stablecoins to LATAM, starting with the Argentine Peso (wARS) on World Chain.

The multi-chain availability of wARS on Ethereum, Base, and World Chain leverages the distinct advantages of each platform. Ethereum provides robust security and global interoperability. Base offers lower transaction fees and faster processing times. World Chain enhances accessibility, particularly in regions where blockchain adoption is still developing. This strategic multi-chain approach allows Ripio to ensure wARS is usable both within Argentina and in international markets.
More About Crypto Adoption in LatAm
In Venezuela, the payments processor Conexus is developing an integration for Bitcoin and stablecoins into the banking system, with the aim of incorporating crypto into traditional financial services. This platform will enable banks to provide secure custody, seamless transfers, and fiat exchange for digital assets, simplifying cryptocurrency access and management for clients alongside their conventional accounts.
