Introducing Transaction Shield
MetaMask has launched Transaction Shield, a new premium service designed to protect users from on-chain transaction losses. This service offers coverage of up to $10,000 per month and includes 24/7 priority support. Transaction Shield functions as an additional security layer, supplementing the wallet's existing protective measures. The tool is designed to cover transactions that have been classified as safe by MetaMask's automated systems.
Service Details and Eligibility
The Transaction Shield service is priced at $9.99 per month or $99 per year. A 14-day free trial is included with the subscription. Currently, the service is accessible via the desktop browser extension, with plans to extend its availability to the mobile application in the future. Eligible transactions encompass a range of activities including DeFi swaps, lending and borrowing operations, NFT minting and sales on trusted marketplaces, and verified airdrop claims. These transactions are supported across various networks such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BSC, and Sei.
Limitations and Claims Process
It is important to note that Transaction Shield does not provide coverage for compromised wallets, market losses, or exploits at the protocol level. Users have a window of 21 days from the incident to file a claim. Reimbursements are typically processed within 15 business days and are paid out in mUSD. This initiative represents a significant advancement in wallet security offerings, maintaining MetaMask's non-custodial model while providing users with enhanced protection.
