Judge Rules Against Kalshi's Sports Betting in Massachusetts
Prediction markets platform Kalshi may encounter legal difficulties operating within the US state of Massachusetts. A judge has reportedly ruled that residents of the state are prohibited from using the website for sports betting activities.
According to a report from Reuters on Tuesday, Suffolk County Superior Court Judge Christopher Barry-Smith stated his intention to issue a preliminary injunction. This injunction would prevent Kalshi from offering sporting betting services to Massachusetts residents unless they possess the necessary gaming license.
Massachusetts Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Kalshi
The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed against Kalshi in September by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Campbell's lawsuit alleged that the platform was facilitating "illegal and unsafe sports wagering." Reuters indicated that the preliminary injunction issued on Tuesday was at the request of Attorney General Campbell.
