Google has launched a new AI platform for business customers called Gemini Enterprise, as part of the tech giant’s bid to compete for a share of corporate artificial intelligence users. This will pitch the company against Microsoft, ChatGPT and Anthropic, competitors with established enterprise products.
The new platform builds on the company’s existing offering for enterprise clients, Google Workspace, which already offers businesses a range of AI features powered by Gemini.
The solution integrates AI into enterprise systems, offering a single entry point for users to chat with data, automate workflows, and build agents. It will be used by employees for work chat, to review data, documents and create other applications.
“Through a no-code workbench, any user — from marketing to finance, and any other team — can analyse information and orchestrate agents to automate processes across the organisation”, Google said in an announcement.
Announcing the new product, CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, announced that the company surpassed a $50 billion annual revenue run rate in Q2, with 13 product lines each generating over $1 billion in annual revenue. “Much of this growth is driven by AI, with 65% of our Cloud customers already using our AI products”, he said.
He also cited examples of corporate users that are already using Google’s AI tools to accelerate their data workflows and remove friction from the customer experience:
- •HCA Healthcare: To improve the critical handoff of patient information during shift changes, HCA Healthcare is piloting a Gemini-powered Nurse Handoff solution, built in collaboration with nurses and grounded in best practices. The automated handoff report is always reviewed by nurses for accuracy before they end their shift, and is estimated to save millions of hours annually.
- •Best Buy has transformed its customer service, driving a 200% increase in customers rescheduling deliveries on their own and resolving 30% more questions on topics like price matching and recycling.
- •Google too: across everything from operations to coding to marketing to supply chain management. Today, nearly half of all new code at Google is generated by AI, reviewed and accepted by engineers. This helps our engineers do more and move faster.
“This is the power of Gemini Enterprise: the new front door for AI in the workplace. We’re bringing the best of Google AI to every employee, for every workflow. And we’re excited to support you every step of the way”, he concluded.
At the unveiling event, Virgin Voyages CEO, Nirmal Savari Motu, shared how Gemini Enterprise has transformed their marketing, reducing time to action by 75% and increasing content production velocity by 40%. The platform also supports cultural transformation, enhancing human potential and business.
Nirmal shared a story about a crew member, AQ, who created an AI-powered marketing assistant using Gemini Enterprise. He also referenced how an AI assistant, Email Ellie, helps scale marketing efforts, leading to significant improvements in campaign efficiency and financial results.
Google also announced that over one million developers are already building with its Gemini CLI, an AI agent, in just three months of launch. The agent allows developers to interact with Google’s Gemini models directly from a terminal for task automation, code generation, and research using natural language.
“It has become an essential tool for developers around the world, whose workflows are becoming more complex every day”, Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said.
Kurian noted that by working with partners and its community to build standardised protocols for key aspects, such as context, communication and commerce, Google is laying the foundation for the agent economy.
