CoinMarketCap has introduced an innovative investment tool with its new index token, CoinMarketCap 20 DTF (CMC20). Announced on November 17, CMC20 allows investors to access the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, with a single transaction. Built on the BNB Chain, this index token is designed as a decentralized and transparent investment vehicle for both individual and institutional investors.
DeFi Infrastructure for Institutional-Level Index
CMC20 stands out as the first tradeable index token that tracks the largest 20 assets in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, weighted by market value and constructed with Reserve infrastructure. The Reserve Decentralized Token Folios (DTF) structure integrates multiple cryptocurrencies into a single token, streamlining Blockchain access to diversified asset portfolios for investors.
The index excludes stablecoins, wrapped assets, and tokens with low liquidity. It is rebalanced monthly to encompass a broad spectrum, from Layer-1 Blockchains to exchange tokens, infrastructure projects, and DeFi protocols. CoinMarketCap CEO Rush Luton likens CMC20 to a digital equivalent of the S&P 500 for the crypto market, noting the introduction of traditional investment tools into the cryptocurrency landscape.
Distributed by Liste DAO on the BNB Chain, CMC20 combines the institutional reliability of traditional indexes with the flexibility of decentralized finance. Investors can mint tokens through the Reserve dApp or engage in direct trading on platforms such as PancakeSwap.

CMC20 enables permissionless issuance and redemption 24/7, allowing trading on centralized and decentralized exchanges. This feature adapts the token for advanced institutional operations like delta-neutral strategies, collateralized lending, or automated portfolio balancing.
