Cloudflare experienced a service interruption in the early hours of Dec. 5, causing access issues across numerous crypto platforms. Centralized exchanges such as Coinbase and Kraken, as well as the user interfaces of several decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, were unreachable for parts of the morning.

Coinbase soon updated that the issue was resolved and the platform was working well. Cloudflare stated it is investigating the incident as its systems stabilize. Internet users also reported seeing error messages when attempting to load sites tied to Cloudflare services, including the outage-tracking platform Downdetector.
Cloudflare Outage Occurs During Scheduled Maintenance
At the time of the disruption, Cloudflare was conducting its scheduled maintenance checks in its Bogota, Detroit, and Chicago data centers. The company informed users in the affected areas that they might notice slightly slower performance while maintenance was underway. It also advised customers connecting through PNI/CNI at that location to anticipate their traffic switching to other routes, as some network interfaces in that data center might be temporarily unavailable during the maintenance period.
Previous Disruptions and Related News
This disruption follows a similar incident on Nov. 18, when Cloudflare reported an "internal service degradation" that affected platforms including BitMEX and DeFiLlama. At that time, the company stated it was working to restore impacted services. As with the November incident, a large number of crypto users found themselves unable to access X as well as platforms such as Coinbase and Kraken.
